Have you ever noticed a time when you were scrolling on your phone and the same ad keeps popping up again and again.
Days go by and yet it keeps popping up.
It becomes very annoying and you begin to have nightmares about that ad.
I’m sure everyone has had that experience, but that’s what I call: ‘sloppy retargeting’.
If you don’t know what retargeting is, if you search up furniture on social media you basically get flooded with ads on furniture.
These apps track your search results and flood your feed with ads on that search, or close to it.
It can be a game changer for a business if used right, but as I just described, it can easily be used wrong.
But don’t worry, since you're reading this article you’ll understand the good side and bad side of retargeting.
More On Retargeting
Everyone is looking to buy something. It could be anything.
No matter what it is, everyone goes through a 5-step journey:
They have a problem or need
They decide to take action on it
They look for possible solutions
They choose an option and look at different suppliers
They buy from a chosen supplier
The reason why this matters is because a retargeting ad gets you in front of customers sooner.
It gives them a chance to know your business, and gives you the chance to show why they should buy from you.
If you've gotten to this point then I already told you about people retargeting the same ad over and over again.
Not only is it annoying and makes you want to rip your hair out, but it doesn’t work because the attention span of people is fried these days.
When people see the same ad over and over again, you can kiss your chances goodbye.
It’s like scrolling through TikTok and seeing the same video over and over again.
Before you know it that video is stuck in your head for the rest of your life.
But how do we solve this problem?
We give those prospects something new and refreshed.
Change the image or video so it gives them something different to see/hear.
Change the text so it’s something they haven’t read yet.
I understand we want to keep things simple for our own business, but by doing that you're not giving your prospects what they want.
How To Give Prospects What They Want
Have you ever had people help you out and ask for nothing in return?
Maybe you had someone help you move furniture and they wanted no money or anything in return.
Yes…it is rare to come by these days, but you remember that moment going forward.
Eventually you think: ‘I have to do them a favor, something in return for that one time’.
This is the exact strategy we use in our marketing.
You know how we help people?
We just help them.
The customer's journey always revolves around a problem or a need.
That means they're looking for their problems to be solved immediately.
We don’t ask for anything in return, we just help them.
If you can just show you care, and that you want to solve their problems, they’ll do you a favor eventually and buy from you.
It works, and It makes the process of selling much easier.
It also makes retargeting incredibly effective.
With all that being said, here’s how retargeting connects to all of this.
How Does All This Correspond With Retargeting?
If you're still reading this then you know the difference between sloppy and good retargeting.
Maybe the campaign you're running is converting at a low percentage. Retargeting is the answer to that problem.
It’s basically a follow up to a reach out. It gives a second opportunity, but also shows you want to help solve other people's problems.
If you implement everything from this article into the way you do marketing, you’ll see the upsides retargeting brings to the table.
You’ll also see people doing YOU a favor in the near future.
