It’s awesome when you come across an ad or commercial and see people cracking jokes and having fun.
I say it’s awesome because we’re used to seeing companies being very serious and worried about putting stuff in your face and selling it.
Having humor in your ads or any type of marketing can get you a huge following these days.
It can also get you into trouble if it’s done wrong.
By reading this article, I'm going to show you how to properly put humor into your ads without causing any chaos.
With the world we live in, people are opening up and having more fun.
I’m sure we’ve all seen this before in commercials and ads scrolling through social media.
The upside to using humor is it shows people you're not all about hardcore selling. It shows you care about the audience and what they want to see.
This is why humor can be game changing.
But the downsides if done wrong can put you in a bad spot and give your company a bad rap.
What Are The Downsides To Using Humor Wrong?
There are a few bad things that can happen, and this first one is most important.
What you NEED to avoid is making any jokes that go against any group of people.
There are too many times where a commercial comes on or a video ad and it cracks a joke where it may make men laugh, and go against women.
This isn’t right, and it’s also just an example.
It isn’t fair in a personal way or business way.
Reason why I say business is because you’ll lose all women who may be in your target audience.
This can go for anything…but think about it.
50% of your audience, gone.
Not only that, you have everyone going around telling people about what you said and this and that.
Eventually you get a bad rap, and your business goes down the toilet.
This has to be avoided at all costs…but there's another thing that can cause more chaos.
Don’t Cause Disagreements
If I'm being honest, debating and telling people you think this and that, is a whole lot of wasted time.
Don’t try to make humor by saying one thing and everyone else doesn’t agree.
I’ve talked about this before in previous articles, and It’s pretty straight forward.
Your audience, your neighbor, your fish, they don’t care about what you think.
It’s just the world we live in.
When people come across your ad, you have something they want.
They don’t want to hear a story or a great debate, they want to buy from you.
So when you make humor in ads, don’t start talking about what you think or what anyone else thinks.
Think and care for the audience. When you do that, everyone buys from you.
After everything, here’s how you put humor into ads.
How To Utilize Humor In Ads, The Right Way
You now know that you need to avoid any humor that goes against people, or drags off on topics of your choice.
The best way to utilize humor is by using it in a way where people can relate to it in a joking way.
Think about what you sell and problems people could go through before they buy your product.
If you sell oven mitts, everyone has burned themselves before. Make a joke out of that.
No debates, no needless thoughts, the way humor needs to be used.
Don’t go overboard on a joke or sentence, keep things simpler so people stay focused on what you sell.
Don’t turn your posts into a meme page. Everything should be driven towards what you sell and caring for your audience.
If you're overthinking on a joke, don’t go along with it. You don’t want to put your company at risk.
Keep things simple and straightforward.
Your competition has no humor because they have no care for their audience.
By having that little bit of humor in your ads, people will start coming to you because you show that you care for them.
You show you're different from everyone else and that it’s not always that serious.
By having the right humor, your company can attract a huge following and become massive. If you’d like for me to check out your ads, message me and I’ll be sure to get back to you.
