Writing is a skill that can bring a lot of attention, and also make you money.
The only problem is most writing sucks. It’s boring, makes no sense, and waffles around like crazy.
School doesn’t make it any better. They just teach you to put as many words as possible on a page and call it a day.
I remember when my English teacher once said “we're going to write 800 words today and 1000 more tomorrow”.
Writing is speaking, and no tricks like that are taught or picked up to put life into what you write.
It doesn’t matter how many words are on the page, but if you can sell your writing or not.
How To Eliminate Bad Writing
I’m sure everyone learned about “verbs” and “nouns” in school.
I’ll sum it up pretty quick - It’s absolutely meaningless.
It’s all a waste of time you can leave for the English teachers.
What we need to do is make writing that sells.
This article will give you some tips and tricks to make any blogs, tweets, social media posts, just about anything stick out in front of your audience.
Make Your Writing Sell
The most important part to any writing is getting people interested to read it and read on.
Attention span is fried these days so it doesn’t make it any easier.
So what do we do?
We get their attention and make sure to keep it.
I’m sure as you read this article, you notice how short the paragraphs are. Mostly 1-2 sentences.
It makes it very easy to read for anyone. Easy to understand and read till the end.
When you go online and come across an article, you’ll see most paragraphs are ginormous. As thick as a book.
It makes your head spin around because who wants to read all that?
When I was in school I hated reading books. Couldn’t stand how long they were and how much I had to digest.
But when I saw a page that had shorter sentences, less words, I wished it could have stayed like that for the rest of the book.
Always keep your writing short and easy to understand. Avoid run-on sentences and waffling around, because I can guarantee no one wants to read that stuff.
With all that in mind, does this mean you have to eliminate any long form content?
Short vs Long Form Content
Not every single thing has to be short and cut up.
There will be times you want to make a video which is longer.
I talked earlier about bad attention span these days. You need to make sure you hook the reader or listener.
If you can do that, it makes the process or writing a hundred times easier.
You’ll also notice people don’t stop reading half way through, and actually listen to what you have to say.
There is more to making successful writing that will be coming in future articles.
For now - make your writing simple and sellable.
Talk soon,
Michael
